Artist’s Statement: We merge fiber, beads, found objects, and wire into wearable accessories using symbols, colors, and textures which rouse emotion and spirituality for the wearer. We emphasize the nature and integrity of our materials; and we try to raise political, spiritual, and self awareness through our product lines. We strive to effectively and independently provide financial support for our family and our business by and through our own creative processes. We strive to expose ourselves and our children to many different cultural and religious backgrounds through the process of attending, working, and promoting traditional and community celebrations. We strive to support and promote events and tourism throughout the tri-state region via our websites and our travels, and we strive to enhance the festival experience for attendees by creating a professional and thought provoking atmosphere through the presentation of our handcrafted products in our booth display. David and Lisa joined forces in 2004. Much of their design work is collaborative, however they do independent work as well. The bulk of their current work showing includes one-of-a-kind artisan accessories for both men and women. All work displayed is handcrafted by the artists and carries a guarantee. Both highly self motivated and self taught artisans, together they have over 28 years of experience as self-employed artists in the tri-state region with extensive hands-on project experience across multiple mediums including: fiber & textiles, jewelry, mosaic, glass, painting, sign-making, henna painting, hair art, graphic design, digital imaging & graphics, clay, wood, and drawing. In addition to showing at “Thursdays on First” in downtown Rochester, David and Lisa participate in over 40 events per year, including fine art fairs, music festivals, and family events throughout the region. (Edina Art Fair, Art at the Paine, Stillwater Fall Arts Festival, Prairie Dog Blues Festival, Bayfront Reggae Festival, Riverfest in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and the Minneapolis Aquatennial) The co-parents of 6, during the off season Dave and Lisa teach community education and do contract art work, and tend to their website projects. Both also work part-time for family based companies; David as a cook and Lisa as a driver. Both David and Lisa continue to implement exciting new concepts in design, display, and business approach. What/Who is Ananke? Ananke Designs is the name that we chose for our small yet growing retail art and jewelry business. We enjoy things of wonderment and beauty, and find it difficult to resist them. They are necessities as it seems. Ananke is also a great goddess, she is Necessity; that which leads to what must be. Ananke is the kind of might which allows no resistance, and they say she was the mother of the fates. Ananke is also the thirteenth moon of Jupiter. Lisa O'Hanlon has over 15 years experience in jewelry making and the creative arts. A mother of four, she needed to remain close to the home while earning an income, as well as to foster an outlet for her own as well as for he With these ideas in mind, Ananke was born. Now in it's eleventh official year, Ananke has continued to develop and grow by establishing a multi-faceted approach, including:
